In 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a law officially recognizing the first Monday in September as the national holiday, Labor Day. Backed by the Central Labor Union, the holiday was established as a yearly celebration of the social and economic achievements that the American workers make to the strength and prosperity of our country.
At 3rd Wind Network, we also recognize the Day After Labor Day, as a celebration of you and your fellow retirees, for the decades you spent working and contributing your blood, sweat, and tears to the betterment of your community and nation. While there is still room for improvement, during the latter half of the 20th century we saw great strides in the representation of women, people of color, individuals of all sexual orientations, and many other marginalized groups on multiple levels within the workplace. Today's workers stand on the shoulders of giants. And, for that, we say 'THANK YOU.'
So, today, take a moment to reflect on your hard work and give yourself a round of applause for a job well done. You've accomplished a lot but there's still plenty for you to see, do, and experience, and at 3rd Wind Network our mission is to help you do just that. Stay tuned for upcoming programming and engagement opportunities. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer, and I look forward to seeing you soon.
